Same - having severe issues with this!

Same here - and I cannot for the life of me find anyone who has successfully done this!

@meganmedaris Do you find any solution in the meantime? I have a very similar problem. The sitemaps of Squarespace defines for the homepage the URL with slug (e.g. /home) .  But Google defines as canonical URL the one without slug. And of course this is marked as "not in the sitemap". i guess this has an negative impact for the visibility of my website on Google. 

This is a huge issue. I am an SEO with 8 years of experience so I have some idea of what I'm talking about.
Google is indexing multiple versions of my home page at the moment. Not to mention the conflicting signals this sends when you have a page with a canonical tag pointing to another page that isn't listed in the sitemap.
The ideal solution would be that the home page lives on / instead of /home...
Also - @GlynMusica I looked into the redirect solution and it won't work since these are all active pages.
There's got to be a way to fix this. Any ideas?

I can confirm seeing something similar. With no effect selected all is good. Select any effect and my background image goes by by. 😞

Hi @TFC - it's easy to get confused about how to implement Google Analytics on Squarespace right now! From your post it sounds like you had Google Tag Manager (GTM) code installed on your site previously and you are looking to add a GA4 property? If that's the case, first you would want to reinstall your GTM code snippets, and then second, use a new GA4 Config tag within Google Tag Manager to start loading the GA4 tracking code on the site.

Best tools for doing this type of analysis are
GTMETRIX - because they offer good suggestions and easy to follow Lighthouse extension for Google Chrome - It's Google, it's local to your browser so more reliable than cloud. Web.dev - to tick all the boxes....pre-connect etc... There is also a GTM hack that will pull LCP values from core web vitals into Google Analytics for you, https://www.simoahava.com/custom-templates/core-web-vitals/.
JS in SS is heavy, some templates don't need all the assets it but I think they are working on it. I would be really surprised if SS didn't offer some support on this but the rollout of this is between mid June and August if memory serves me correctly.  Also, I do recommend that any third-party codes are removed from your website when doing performance checks, at least that way you can see if the problem is a poor third-party CDN.
