I'm also seeking to do the same. One solution is to add "website toolbox" which allows for seemless integration OR one could host a wordpress forum (there are many forum plugins available for wordpress and create a subdomain that attaches to your present site.

How to Remove Footer Hyperlink Underline?

In 7.1 it's just a matter of editing the footer. Go to "edit" mode and scroll down to footer, highlight the link and edit.
