Button Color Not Responding to Style Changes

As a test, I started a new site without the AI thing and just selected a template. The buttons still do not reflect the template colours. See screenshot. Changes to button shape and font ARE reflected in the page - just not the colours, it seems. I then went to Site Styles, clicked the Colours section and changed the colours. The buttons then reflected the changed site colours. Hmmm...

Yep, same issue. I created a new site (7.1) and used the AI template generator because I wanted a very minimal site. It didn't set my home page as in "Set as homepage" (which was an easy fix), but now I am wondering if that AI thing is the source of my problem with buttons. I have no custom CSS. Buggy, by the look of it. :-(
