  2. Just like how delicious food can tantalize taste buds, a restaurant's website should whet the appetites of potential customers. Squarespace can be a perfect platform to build a beautiful and informative website that will have them booking reservations in no time. This post will walk you through the essential ingredients for your restaurant's Squarespace website, ensuring it leaves a lasting impression. Setting the Scene: Essential Pages for Your Restaurant Website A Squarespace website allows you to connect with hungry patrons, showcase your culinary creations, and establish your restaurant's unique identity. Here are the key pages to get you started: Home Page: The Appetizer The Home Page is the digital welcome mat of your website, the first bite visitors will take of your online presence. Here, you have the opportunity to capture their attention and set the tone for their virtual dining experience. Hero Image: This is your website's centerpiece, a high-quality visual that grabs attention and encapsulates the essence of your restaurant. Consider a delectable close-up of your signature dish, a warm and inviting image of your dining room bustling with happy diners, or a captivating video showcasing your chefs at work, preparing culinary masterpieces. Tempting Description: In a few concise and captivating sentences, highlight your culinary focus, whether it's a specific cuisine, locally-sourced ingredients, or a unique dining experience. Briefly mention your restaurant's atmosphere, enticing visitors to delve deeper and explore the rest of your website. Clear Call to Action: Don't leave your visitors wondering what to do next. Tell them clearly what action you want them to take, whether it's browsing your menu, making a reservation online, or ordering takeout for a delicious meal at home. Pro Tip: Squarespace integrates with OpenTable & Tock! OpenTable is a reservation system that lets your website visitors book reservations or sign up for waitlists. Learn more about this integration in this support article: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206544067-OpenTable-blocks Tock is a reservation program that integrates with your Squarespace site. Visitors can book tables at your restaurant or RSVP to events with a pop-up where they fill in reservation details. All the booking is handled through Tock and they have a variety of plans and features for different size restaurants. Learn more about this integration in this support article: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/4407879374477-Reservations-blocks-for-Tock Menu Page: The Main Course The Menu Page is the heart of your website, the star of the show. Here, you'll showcase the culinary creations that will tantalize taste buds and have visitors eager to make a reservation. A La Carte or Categorized: Organize your menu in a way that is clear, easy to navigate, and visually appealing. Consider presenting your dishes a la carte or categorizing them by course (appetizers, entrees, desserts) or type of cuisine (pasta, seafood, vegetarian options). This user-friendly approach allows visitors to quickly find the items that pique their interest. High-Quality Photos: Every dish deserves to be visually celebrated! Include mouthwatering appetizing photographs of each menu item. Invest in professional photography that captures the vibrant colors, fresh ingredients, and artful presentation of your food. A well-placed photo can be the deciding factor for a hungry visitor, turning their browsing into a craving for your culinary creations. Enticing Descriptions: Don't just list the ingredients - tell a story! Craft brief but compelling descriptions for each dish, highlighting the fresh, seasonal ingredients you use and the unique flavor profiles diners can expect. Use descriptive language to entice the senses, mentioning savory sauces, perfectly cooked proteins, and delightful textures. Pro Tip: Hosting a PDF of your menu is a fast way to get it on your site, but it wonโ€™t be searchable, clickable, and it might be difficult to read on smaller screen sizes. You can avoid all those headaches by using the Squarespace menu block. This content block will display your menu in a text based format that matches the rest of your site. It also has a cool feature that lets you display a category of menu items, so people can quickly toggle between lunch and dinner, or even highlight your unique vegetarian options in their own category. For more info, check out this support article: support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/206544087-Menu-blocks About Us Page: Sharing Your Culinary Story The About Us Page is your chance to connect with potential customers on a deeper level, inviting them into the story behind your restaurant. Social Butterfly: In today's digital age, social media is a powerful tool for connecting with potential customers. Include links to your active social media profiles on platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Open Communication: Let your visitors know you value their feedback! Consider including a contact form on your page, allowing them to send questions, comments, or suggestions directly to your team. Make sure you update the post submit form text to let people know their message was sent and when they should expect to hear from you. Extra Flavor: Features to Spice Up Your Website and Attract New Diners The essential pages we've covered provide a solid foundation for your restaurant's website, but Squarespace offers a treasure trove of additional features that can elevate your online presence and attract a wider audience of hungry customers eager to discover your amazing food. Let's delve into some of these features and explore how they can add "extra flavor" to your website, transforming it into a powerful marketing tool. Tempt with a Blog: Share Your Culinary Expertise and Passion A blog on your restaurant's website is more than just a digital recipe box. It's a platform to showcase your culinary knowledge, share your passion for food, and engage with potential diners on a deeper level. Here are some key benefits of adding a blog to your website: Content is King: Search engines reward websites with fresh, informative content. Regularly updated blog posts can improve your website's ranking in search results, making it more discoverable by potential customers who are searching for restaurants in your area. Showcase Your Expertise: Share your culinary knowledge and creativity through blog posts featuring recipes, chef interviews, or food pairing recommendations. This content positions you as an authority in the culinary world, building trust and credibility with potential diners. Fuel Curiosity and Cravings: Use your blog to tease upcoming menu items, highlight seasonal ingredients, or share behind-the-scenes glimpses into your kitchen. This creates a sense of anticipation and excitement, enticing readers to visit your restaurant and experience your culinary creations firsthand. Build Community: A blog fosters a two-way conversation with your audience. Encourage comments and questions on your blog posts, allowing you to connect with potential customers and address their specific interests. This interaction fosters a sense of community and loyalty, drawing diners closer to your restaurant. Targeted Marketing: Your blog content can be a powerful marketing tool. Promote special offers, announce upcoming events, or highlight new menu items through blog posts. This targeted approach allows you to reach potential customers who are already interested in what your restaurant has to offer. Order Pickup Options: Convenience is Key in Today's World In our fast-paced world, convenience reigns supreme. Offering online ordering through your website allows customers to seamlessly place a pickup order from your restaurant, satisfying their cravings without the need for a phone call. Here's how online ordering can benefit your restaurant: Increased Sales: By offering online ordering, you remove a barrier to entry for potential customers. Those who might hesitate to pick up the phone can easily place an order with a few clicks, leading to a potential increase in sales. 24/7 Ordering: Your website never sleeps! Online ordering allows customers to place orders outside of your regular business hours, capturing those late-night cravings and spontaneous decisions to enjoy a delicious meal at home. Improved Order Accuracy: Online ordering systems minimize the risk of errors that can sometimes occur during phone orders. Customers can customize their orders exactly as they like, leading to a more positive dining experience. Data Collection: Many online ordering systems capture valuable customer data, such as order history and preferences. This information allows you to personalize marketing efforts and target promotions to specific customer segments. This Squarespace feature is not the same as home delivery programs like DoorDash or UberEats. Check out this article for more information on local pickup options that are built right into Squarespace: https://support.squarespace.com/hc/en-us/articles/207100347-Local-pickup Showcase Your Reviews: Building Trust Through Social Proof Positive customer reviews and testimonials are like digital gold for your restaurant. Featuring them prominently on your website can significantly impact your ability to attract new diners. Here's why showcasing reviews is a recipe for success: Social Proof in Action: Positive reviews from satisfied customers act as social proof, validating your restaurant's quality and trustworthiness. Potential diners are more likely to patronize a restaurant that boasts glowing reviews from others. Building Trust: Reviews offer a glimpse into the real-life experiences of your customers. Showcasing positive reviews allows potential diners to trust that they'll have a delicious and enjoyable dining experience at your restaurant. Addressing Concerns: Negative reviews, while not ideal, can be an opportunity to showcase your commitment to customer satisfaction. By responding promptly and professionally to negative reviews, you demonstrate your dedication to resolving issues and improving your service. A Conversation Starter: Reviews can spark conversation and engagement on your website. Encourage customers to leave reviews and respond to comments, fostering a sense of community and interaction. Events Calendar: Keep Customers Informed and Engaged Does your restaurant host special events, themed nights, or cooking classes? An events calendar on your website is a fantastic way to keep potential customers informed and engaged. Use an events page inside Squarespace to showcase any special events or theme nights youโ€™re hosting. These event pages can be easily added to a calendar with a click, and you can feature content blocks like OpenTable, Tock or a custom menu for the event! 3. Thanks for opening up the conversation on the forum @justinjamesclack! ๐Ÿ™Œ I totally agree with you - the template building part was pretty basic, especially for those of us who are familiar with Squarespace, but the generative text for every page was really intersting to see. This could be helpful for my clients with sever writers block; something to get them started, as long as they know that they need to customize it and make it unique. Blueprint is an interesting sidestep into a hot topic, and it has a lot of potential. But my biggest question still remains - if it's called Squarespace blueprint - why on earth did they not use the url slug squarespace.com/blueprint ?!?! ๐Ÿ˜‚
  4. Hey everyone! Thank you so much or all of your suggestions. ๐Ÿฅฐ There are so many good ideas on this thread!!! 6. I got a few more ideas from my Instagram fam today (here's a link to my profile if you wanna join the fun) martial arts authors (writers & poets) medi spas corporate events catering weddings
  7. These are all great - thank you, everyone!! I posted this question to my YouTube community and got some great responses there that I wanted to add here: Legal and accounting! These are often just brochure sites, with contact information. Local clubs and societies, which often donโ€™t have much money but need a site. Food retail / restaurants (that have POS) Non-profits Franchises
  8. I also forgot about your second question - borders! Those can be tricky for images. If you have one set to "fill" instead of fit, or a shape, you can use a basic border code. All content blocks get a unique block id that you can find with a free Chrome extension that a lot of us use ( https://insidethesquare.co/chromeext ) Here is a tutorial about creating code for specific blocks: https://insidethesquare.co/squarespace-tutorials/css-targeting-tricks and here is an article about borders: https://insidethesquare.co/borders
  9. Hey @Bexxx - welcome to Squarespace! ๐Ÿ‘‹ A lot of the coding you used in Showit will work for common HTML things, like the a that you'll use to target an active link. But you've already discovered that Squarespace has its own unique selectors for some important things. ๐Ÿ˜‰ The active link in your website header has a background image you can hide with a version @tuanphan 's code. This code below will hide the underline from pages you are actively on, and leave a border hover effect that will be the same color as your nav color, even if you change it in the site style menu: .header-nav-item--active a{background:transparent!important} .header-nav-item a:hover{border-bottom:1px solid var(--solidHeaderNavigationColor)!important} If there are other things you want to change, you'll find a ton of free codes on my tutorial blog at insidethesquare.co/squarespace-tutorials I hope all that info helps, and best of luck with your Squarespace project!
  10. Gotcha - thank you for sharing that screenshot!! That's a carousel list section auto layout, and you can have those images display as a circle without any code. In edit mode, select edit content, and under your design tab you'll see the image crop option. You can pick circle from that list and Squarespace will crop it for you. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
  11. Hey @GabriellaW123 - I would love to help but I am a little confused by your terminology. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ If you have a summary block that shows content from a collection on the home page, set the image aspect ratio and use this code to make the images a circle: .sqs-gallery-design-carousel img{border-radius: 50%!important} To get super nerdy here, I wanna explain why I was a little hesitant to answer. A portfolio is a specific collection type in Squarespace, but we can't feature project info in any carousel layout. A summary block is a content block that can pull data from a blog, event, or store (not a portfolio of projects) If you want to share a link I can make sure we are talking about the same thing! You can set an unpublished site to password protected so people can look before you launch. You'll find that under settings -> site availability -> password Anyhoo, hope that initial code does the trick! Add that to your site wide CSS and any summary block set to carousel will have images with curved corners.
  12. Hey @uhohitsheidiho - this is a great question! The block id is for the whole form, so you'll need to add the selector for the button inside that block. This code will change that font for ya: .form-wrapper .sqs-button-element--primary { font-family: Cunia!important } Hope that helps and best of luck with your project! โ˜บ๏ธ P.S. If you have more than one form on your site, you don't need to use the block id! If you use the code name ".form-wrapper .sqs-button-element--primary" all of your contact forms will get the same font family change.
  13. That's a great question! If you set the button design to "fill" instead of "fit" you can change the flex alignment with a code like this: .sqs-button-element--tertiary { justify-content:flex-start!important } I hope that info helps and best of luck with your project! โ˜บ๏ธ
  14. Hey @Miicherey! It looks like that testimonial title is just a standard text block in a normal fluid engine page section. We can't change font sizes for a specific selector of text using the editor, so if none of your assigned font sizes for h1, h2, h3 and so on will work, you can change this individual thing with CSS. Here is a video with info on how to do that. Also - this video is a little old but the concept still works! To add CSS, go to website then website tools, then custom CSS. They rearranged the design menu back in August. ๐Ÿ˜…
  15. Hey Jake! I am a huge fan of customizing Squarespace with CSS. I have a little over 300 blog posts that specify the classes you're talking about: https://insidethesquare.co/squarespace-tutorials/ I also use this free chrome extension to grab block ids (not affiliated just a fan!): https://insidethesquare.co/chromeext And if you want some tips on when to use a selector/class vs a block id (and when to usee both!) check out this video overview specifically for Squarespace: And if you wanna grab my collection of classes for Squarespace, I have them all organized in a Notion doc you can get here: https://insidethesquare.co/css I hope all that info helps! Feel free to DM me if you have any questions about a specific project; I'm always looking for more tutorial ideas for my blog ๐Ÿ˜‰
  16. Today is a HUGE day for little ol' me - I just passed the 20,000 subscriber mark on my YouTube channel!!! ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿฅฐ ๐Ÿ™Œ

I know a big chunk of those 20,000 are a part of our Squarespace community right here on the forum so I had to cross post my thanks โค๏ธ

If you are one of my subscribers, thank you for your support! It's an honor to be your teacher and to share a new Squarespace tutorial with you week after week ๐Ÿฅฐ

  18. Hey @AJZ I just took a look at your source code and there is some typo/character issue that is blocking your code from rendering after line 35721. Your code is just fine for 7.1, so something must have carried over from wherever you store your codes. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ https://vimeo.com/865155812/e356e70256?share=copy If you remove your code & notes, and replace it with this you should be good to go. P.S. be sure to add !important for your burger display value change to make sure it's not ignored by the browser. Hope this helps! /* burger on desktop */ .header .header-burger{display:flex!important} .header-nav, .header-actions {display:none} .header--menu-open .header-menu { opacity: 1; visibility: visible;}
  19. I posted a new tutorial today - how to change the style of hyperlinks in text blocks on a page! We're removing the underline, changing the color, and creating a hover effect.

This is the main selector from the video; it limits the changes to any links inside an html based block on the page, which means the site title (if it's text) and footer links aren't effected:

    #page .sqs-block-html a

To see the code in action, including the hover effect, you can check out the free tutorial on my blog atย https://insidethesquare.co/squarespace-tutorials/hyperlink-style

  20. Gallery sections are a great way to display images, but the caption style options are a little.. uh... lacking ๐Ÿ˜ฌย I used some custom code on a client site to create a two-line image caption/description with a little custom style and published it on my blog today! Here is a link to the tutorial with the code I created and a video on how to set it up ๐Ÿ™Œ

  21. Hey @ArtLover777! Sorry I didnt get to your youtube comment yet - I've got a lot to catch up on from taking Sunday off ๐Ÿ˜… Anyhoo, to add code to a single page you'll need to use page header code injection for the storefront. Click on the gear icon to access the store settings, then select advanced, then page header code injection. Paste my code there between two style brackets so the browser knows it's CSS, like this: <style> @media only screen and (max-width:767px) { .products .list-grid { display: flex; flex-wrap: wrap; justify-content: space-between; } .products .grid-item { width: 48%; } } </style>

  23. I had WAY too much fun exploring Courses for the last few months (hooray for beta testing!๐Ÿ™Œ ) so I made a tutorial video about it. From setup to settings and all the design options in between, here is an overview of Squarespace courses:ย

  24. Thanks for sharing the screenshot! It looks like you want your dropdown menu background to be transparent and that's totally possible with a little CSS! Here is the code you'll need to add to your site: .header .header-nav-folder-content{background-color:transparent!important} And here is the tricky part as of right now: how to access your custom CSS. ๐Ÿ˜… If you are using the Website menu, navigate to website, select website tools, and select custom CSS. Here you can paste the code. If you see the word "pages" followed by "design" click on design, and then select Custom CSS. That opens the same panel, and you can paste the code there. A little confusing for now, but I hope that info helps, and best of luck with your project!
