  1. Hi! I am curious as to how you set up this page: https://myrandomviews.com/storyarchive

      I use two blog pages. One has all my posts, it is in the unlinked section of my site. I make each post a member of a certain category. That is the first step.

      I have a second blog page which is in the linked section of my site. Each post in the blog contains one or more summary blocks pulling content from the first blog page by category. Sometimes there is more than one block if I need more than 30 items in that post, for example, Soul Stories contains a lot more than 30 items so there are two blocks.  I give each post in the second blog,  the front-facing one,  a category, and that category is what the archive block uses. I keep the second blog simple, with no image blocks in it, no excerpts just the summary blocks and the title. I use code to hide the publication date of all posts in both blocks. If I think the reader needs to know when it was published I type that in myself at the top or bottom of the post.

      This takes a bit of work to set up but once done any new post just needs a category and or make it a featured post to put it at the top of the page. I use the featured option a lot. I may want for some good reason to feature an older post so all I need do is toggle that option and there it is at the top of the page.

      Avenue is the template I use and the blog only lists posts, no wall or grid option as in 7.1 or some other 7.0 templates. That is what first prompted my use of summary blocks, but then I realized I could use a pull-down menu to find those posts so I moved my summary blocks from a normal page to the second blog.

  2. Hi there!

    I have been trying to find a code for 7.0 to create a hover effect for my title on my gallery block. You are the only person on the forum that I have found so far that is helping so far! I found this code you posted:

    /*
    ** in gallery grid, set a hover over slide effect to
    ** display slide title on partially transparent
    ** overlay
    */
    .sqs-gallery.sqs-gallery-design-grid .slide
    .margin-wrapper .image-slide-title {
     position: absolute;
     bottom: 0;
     width: 100%;
     height: 0;
     color: white;
     background-color: rgba(194, 194, 163, .8);
     opacity: 0;
     transition: all .25s ease-in;
    }
    .sqs-gallery.sqs-gallery-design-grid .slide
    .margin-wrapper:hover .image-slide-title {
     height: 40%;
     opacity: .9;
    }

    Which has worked brilliantly! The only question I have is if I wanted the title to instead fade in instead of slide up how can I alter the code above? Do you have any suggestions?

    Thank you so much in advance!!! - Jacqueline

      This may work,  emphasis on may. You can post it in custom css or if you have business plan put it on a single page with the <style> command at each end. Make sure title is enable just like with the slide up code.

      .sqs-gallery-design-grid-slide:hover {
       -webkit-transition: all 300ms cubic-bezier(0.420, 0.000, 0.580, 1.000);
      -moz-transition: all 300ms cubic-bezier(0.420, 0.000, 0.580, 1.000);
      -ms-transition: all 300ms cubic-bezier(0.420, 0.000, 0.580, 1.000);
       -o-transition: all 300ms cubic-bezier(0.420, 0.000, 0.580, 1.000);
          transition: all 300ms cubic-bezier(0.420, 0.000, 0.580, 1.000);
           opacity: 0;

           }

      If you were to use a gallery page (not block) with the same images, put that in the unlinked setction of your site, then create a summary block on a page pulling from that gallery page then there is code for that to have the title/description show up on hover.

      I don't think the code can be simply altered. I tried changin it from a slide up to a fade but no go. Not yet anyway.

  4. I hear you have some tricks on how to get a masonry gallery in 7.0. I am currently using Index Gallery in "Packed" -- but it's not truly responsive and follows a pattern (big on the left, 2 small on the right etc.) regardless of orientation. I have a client with every possible ratio of image sizes, and I can't for the life of me create a true masonry gallery in 7.0 that doesn't heavily crop every image. Any ideas? Attached are my best attempt .. and what it SHOULD look like.

      Depending on the template, like Wexley, gallery pages, not blocks, will create a masonry layout wih very little cropping, and not that much effort from me. Most of my effort is arranging the photos, like a puzzle, and using site styles to tweak the padding between the index items and the items themselves. This effects all galleries blocks to some extent as well. If you are using a block, as I said Image arrangement is very important, I set the block for no cropping and usually 1:1 square, and play with the padding. That last setting may change depending on how much of the page I am using. And you have to be willing to have varible space between the images.  You can see examples of that here on this site.

  5. Hi Derrick. I've seen few posts about this specific question and within them, no answers. I want to know if there is a way to cancel a domain transfer in progress. I started the process of transferring my client's site and in retrospect, I wish I had simply pointed to where it was parked. Within Squarespace, there is no access to a control panel to change DNS entries—for domains and for email. It feels very restrictive. In addition, the site transfer can take 'up to 15 days' and is 'out of Squarespace control', so even they don't have control. At this point, I would like to cancel the transfer in progress and have SS release the domain. How do I do this? How do I get the authorization code I need? Will this add to the timing of things or can I be hopeful that if I do do this, I can send the domain back to where it was and be up and running with my client's website sooner rather than later, which is looking like up to 15 days. It has been 'in progress' for 4 days now and counting.

    Thank you, and I hope I put this message in the right place for you.

      whoishostingthis.com  says the domain is still with qweb internet services the named servers are

      Nameservers:

      ns1.qweb.net

      ns3.qweb.co

      ns2.qweb.nu

      Looks like the domain is somewhere between qweb and squarespace, hopefully the transfer will complete very soon.

      It may be simpler than I first thought to cancel a transfer

      1. n the Home Menu, click Settings, then click Domains.
      2. Click the domain that's pending transfer.
      3. Click Cancel transfer.
      4. Confirm the cancellation.

      I would go to the domain hosting site and see if you can cancel the transfer there. Its still hosted there and you own it so you should be able to stop the transfer.

      I agree repointing as opposed to domain transfer or url forwarding is really the best way to go.

  8. I have a question about the URL slugs. An affiliated website is to link into our website. It happens it is also a Squarespace website. The 'pages' we want to share are linked to categories on a product page contains all products. The link contains characters like ? + etc. What is the easiest way to create a page with a correct URL to be used.

    Thanks in advance,

    Signe

      derricksrandomviews

      Slugs for new pages can be very simple  like mine myrandomviews.com/blog. These simple urls can be assigned as clickthru urls on an image. Going the other way can be a bit tricky but links and buttons on a a page will take very lone urls with special characters.

      To answer your question if its a new page regardless of the title just give it your own simple slug.

  9. Derrick, Thank you for going to the trouble! FreeFrontEnd has just the arrow style I want here. I'm using SqS 7.1, which is making it much harder to customize than 7.0.

    Would you want to make suggestions about HOW to modify their CSS code to make the animated arrow overlay a banner image so that it's near/at the bottom?

    1. derricksrandomviews

      derricksrandomviews

      I will check into that, like you said 7.1 is a bit more stubborn to make changes to.

  10. I found the site and the code at about the same time that you posted your latest. Thanks!

      You bet, hope you get exactly what you want from there.
