  1. I contacted Squarespace regarding the issue. Initially, customer support suggested that my custom code was interfering with the picture effect. However, even after removing all custom CSS code and code blocks, the problem persisted. It appeared to be caused by the animated creative backgrounds. Upon reaching out to customer support again, they acknowledged an issue on their end. They assigned a Squarespace product support specialist to investigate, who determined that the problem arose from the combination of the image effect and the site-wide 'Scale' animation.

    TL;DR
If you encounter this issue and happen to come across this post, simply change the site-wide animation to something other than 'Scale' and you'll be fine. The problem has been reported to Squarespace's Engineering and Design teams and will be addressed in a future update.

Shout out to Maia and Raven for their assistance in resolving this issue!

  2. I'm still looking for a solution for this problem.

I noticed that the image canvas changes as I scroll up, which causes the white space. Past a certain point it changes from this...

    <canvas width="647" height="646" style="display: none; position: absolute; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 100%; height: 100%;"></canvas>

    ...to this.

    <canvas width="3281" height="1177" style="position: absolute; left: 0px; top: 0px; width: 1641px; height: 589px;"></canvas>

Can I contact a Squarespace programmer directly to make them aware of this issue?

Which screen size do you see problem? I tried resize but can't see white space

I see the problem at 2560 x 1440 px, but it also happens at 1920 x 1080 px and lower.
This is what it looks like...

The problem with the first image (AI) always occurs when scrolling past a certain point. The problem with the second image (Hologram) is always there... when it is there, because sometimes it doesn't happen at all.

I can't make sense of it.
Thank you for taking the time to look into it! 🙏

  4. Hello!

I ran into a problem using the image effects. Using the Parallax and Refracted lines effects a white background (?) appears more often than not. 🤔

It seems to be affected by the browser's window size – when I change the window size it disappears, only to re-appear on reload. It's more common in Safari and Chrome. Deleting my custom CSS code does nothing, it happens regardless.

The site is aleapictures-io.squarespace.com or aleapictures.io.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you!

  5. If you have lost the custom CSS of a Squarespace website that was previously online, you can follow these steps to retrieve it:

    1. Visit https://cachedview.com/ and enter the URL of your website. This will allow you to view the cached Google version of your website. Alternatively you can find captures of your website at http://web.archive.org.

    2. Use the Inspector/DevTools feature in your web browser to access the site.css file. You can do this by right-clicking on your website and selecting "Inspect" or "Inspect Element." Look for the site.css file within the list of loaded resources.
Alternatively, you can save the full web page using your browser by right-clicking on your website and choosing "Save As" or a similar option. Open the saved site.css file in a text editor (such as TextEdit, Notepad or Sublime Text).

Here's a screenshot of the Firefox Inspector; select the Style Editor and find the site.css file in the list:

    3. Scroll to the very bottom of the site.css file, just below the last line that says:

      /*! Squarespace LESS Compiler (less.js language v1.3.3) */

Your custom CSS code will be located below this line.

    4. To ensure clean formatting, run the copied CSS code through a CSS formatter tool. You can use an online CSS formatter such as this one.

    5. Once the CSS code is formatted, copy it back to your Squarespace website.

    6. Don't be stupid and make a freaking backup of your Custom CSS.

By following these steps, you should be able to retrieve your lost custom CSS and integrate it back into your Squarespace website.

  6. I narrowed down the cause of the "Item not found" error I'm getting when editing a blog post.

It seems to occur when I'm changing the Featured Image in the Options tab.
I duplicate a blog post and edit its content; I delete the Featured Image in the Options tab and select a new image from my library; I try to save the edited blog post, only to be greeted with the "ERROR Item not found" pop-up.

    ERROR.png.49fcfcbee82aa49c34d9bb7c58368c3a.png

A workaround is to first edit the content of the blog post, save it, edit it again and then only change the Featured Image, save it and get the error pop-up, close the blog post, edit it again and the Featured Image should now be empty, select a new image and then it should save.

It's quite annoying, even more so when you forget about the error pop-up and all your edits are lost to this stupid bug.

    Please Squarespace, fix it.

  7. Working with Squarespace is becoming increasingly cumbersome. I too have experienced the issues mentioned in this thread, they are not caused by custom code or browser plugins. Additionally from the top of my head...

    • When editing the site using Firefox the links on my website don't work most of the time, I get a blank page.
    • Searching for Unsplash images in Safari is broken.
    • Google Maps don't show up in Google Chrome.
    • Trying to save a blog post occasionally causes an "Item Not Found" or a similar error.
    • Moving blocks has become complicated, the line to drop a block over the full width of the page is not showing up.

    Please fix this Squarespace.
