Update 5/26/2020: Squarespace has added the ability to add image descriptions/captions to 7.1 gallery sections. See here. There are some limitations, such as not appearing in lightbox view and not supporting multiple lines. So, the workaround below may still be of use. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi @dan3. Looking at the underlying gallery code, it appears that image descriptions are in-the-works to one degree or another. In the mean time, I've created a bit of code you can use to add image descriptions/captions to gallery sections in Sq29 points

Adding text to a fullscreen slideshow on Ver 7.1
katherineforbes and 16 others reacted to sonoferikdesign for a question
Dear Squarespace team, Full-width sliding images with the ability to place the same or different text and buttons on each image is absolutely a feature we need. I get this request on literally almost every site I build. I believe it is a feature that would get used millions of times over. I love what you have built and the more I get used to 7.1, I can see it's advantages. Adding this feature would make 7.1 an absolute no-brainer. Please acknowledge our collective desire to have this implemented as soon as possible. Thank you for all you do!17 points -
New Google Analytics Tag
Rockalifornia and 12 others reacted to babyface for a topic
HERE'S THE SOLUTION: In Google Analytics create a new property. In the new property setup panel there's a link "Show Advanced Options" at the bottom. In Advanced Options there's an option "Create a Universal Analytics property". Using this option will give you the option to either create both a GA4 and a UA id in which case it creates 2 properties and links them or you can just create a single UA id.13 points -

[Share] Custom Code - Navigation Link Color/Hover Color/Active Color

I ran across this SS support page when researching how to delete imported images. "Deleting an image you've uploaded or a Getty Image preview removes it from the Imported tab. If you’ve used the image in multiple places, it will stay in the Imported tab until you delete all copies. If you're still seeing it in the Imported tab, you may need to empty your site's trash can." However, I'm not finding the statement to be accurate... it appears any image I import stays in the Imported tab, even if deleted from the page, not used throughout the site, and the trash is empty. Just curious if12 points

Just spoke with someone on chat (very good experience, by the way) and this is still not possible. The whole point of providing the ability to capture taxes separately is to make my job easier when filing with my state's taxation department. If I have to figure out which items were incorrectly priced due to non-taxability, I've lost that convenience and I might as well *not* separate taxes from my product prices. Please, developers, add this feature. Wix + Weebly handles this properly! A simple checkbox on each product would suffice. I have to admit that I'm amazed this site/product/12 points

Agree- this is definity something that needs attention. I sell product (taxable in my state) as well as a non taxable service (such as a workshop) that does not get taxed. My only option is to refund the sales tax to those who purchase a non taxable workshop-not ideal! Please add a feature to make this possible! Thank you!11 points -
New Google Analytics Tag
PatrickJ and 9 others reacted to LYFSolutions for a topic
I contacted support and they advised that at this stage they have no update when their system will accept the new Google Analytics 4 (GA4) measurement ID. It is disappointing because clients who don't have a business or eCommerce plan don't have any option to add the GA4 tag in. Support suggest clients add a UA tag in but this disregards the fact GA4 is based on a global tag and even Google recommends during setup not to use the UA tag. Understand Google has made the change, but at the very least Squarespace should allow code injection until they have a fix for this as GA4 is n10 points -
7.1 is horrible right?
AlphonseTheMagnificent and 9 others reacted to Mkibby for a topic
Has anyone who has previously used Squarespace and was familiar with the design process tried making a new, from scratch site using 7.1? All of the Design customization is GONE! There's a super convoluted way to go in and customize in settings, but you still have way less control than before — not to mention the templated font combinations are TERRIBLE. Is there any way to go back and use the old Squarespace??! Is any one else as angry about this as I am? It's like Squarespace decided they wanted to make the design process baby boomer-friendly, since... yanno, that is who is designi10 points -

From everything I've read it looks like the move to 7.1 (and removal of specific templates in favour of design styles) means header search is now gone. Same story with the Sidebar. Both features no longer seem to be supported which is super disappointing. The irony is that the Squarespace's own sites use both of these features (header search and sidebar) heavily. They are great features, please bring them back.10 points

Disabling Portfolio Project Pages in Squarespace Version 7.1
becca_lam and 8 others reacted to courtneyahndesign for a topic
I've run into a bit of an issue with hiding individual collection pages in Squarespace 7.1. Normally, by clicking on the settings for a page, you are able to enable or disable that page. However with the new system of "Portfolio Collections" that page disable option does not exist for individual portfolio project pages. I may be mistaken, but as far as I can tell, there is no way to hide these pages (screenshots attached for reference). This is incredibly troubling as you cannot create drafts of projects, nor if you are duplicating other projects, they will be live with duplicate content9 points -

Why are normal and basic e-commerce store features missing? (The elephant in the room?) Here's a list of complaints I have. My basic question is why isn't Squarespace trying to offer features to seriously compete with Shopify and others to expand their business? Why are the following missing? There's no option to sort/filter products by tags, availabilty, sales, color, or anything else. There's no built in option for product reviews. You can't expect everyone to figure out coding and troubleshooting every single time they want a basic, ubiquitous store feature. The9 points

What's even more confounding, is that the controls are there. They simply don't work as yet. Yes. It's a bit arbitrary why portfolio's in 7.1 can't be password protected yet pages can. A entirely plausible usage-case is you have a body of work, not just a single project, that requires it be hidden. This ought to be addressed.9 points -
Calculated Shipping Rates Troubleshooting

Site URL: https://sashalennonpottery.com/ I sell physical goods, and I have upgraded my site to included carrier calculated shipping rates at checkout. Most of my goods require a box for shipping, but I recently started selling stickers. Stickers are flat, and don't need to be shipped in a box. I want the calculated shipping when shipping only stickers to be $0.55 (the cost of a stamp). I can't find a way to manipulate the carrier calculator to know to place the items in an envelope and not a box. I have tried creating a flat rate shipping option, but since I can't apply shipping opti8 points -

Uploaded a ton of FPOS and went to clean out the image library and learned that you can't delete imported images. WTF? Who in the world thought this was a good idea? HUGE FAIL! Changing the date format of blog posts

I don't know if this has been a recent fix but I was able to get the UK date format by going to Settings > Language & Region and choosing "English (United Kingdom)" as my language. Now in the overview they display as dd/mm/yy and when you click through it shows as number then month e.g. 6 May. No offense to colin.irwin, or anyone else, but this is a little bit ponderous from a user/content creator perspective. Is there any other reason for the inability to delete content that is uploaded? Just for my situation, I'm an artist, I just need one site which I have, but there is plenty of uploading and removing, as work gets older and/or you make newer better work. So there will be plenty of iterations. There are a couple ways to think about this. - I have uploaded content that is created by me, and I'm not saying anything will happen to it probably, but I therefore have no c8 points

Infinite Scroll for 7.1 Blog?

Yes. This is super important. I just built a website for a client which I started by duplicating a site I did for another client. I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT hand it off with the first client's custom photography saved in the imported images. So I have to build the whole site over from scratch??? OMG. Hours and hours of redundant work are ahead. This is not ok. #featurerequest7 points -
Why oh why is there no way to delete uploaded images and why is there no way to organise them into folders? It seems like such a basic necessity for managing a website. Does anyone know if there is a (simple) file manger in the works? This is by far my biggest request for Squarespace as a user.7 points

I can't believe you need to use code to create share buttons and also the fact that it's not included in the basic package. Disabling Portfolio Project Pages in Squarespace Version 7.1

I am experiencing the exact same problem and for the same reasons. I dislike how the content being actively worked on for my site is live the whole time. Just looks sloppy on my part even though there isn't anything I can do about it other than consider alternative templates or platforms. Another issue I have that is related to this problem is there doesn't appear to be a way to password protect individual pages within the portfolio folder either. This would be useful so that I could lock down content for specific pages that might have projects under NDA (among other reasons).6 points
