  2. Update 5/26/2020: Squarespace has added the ability to add image descriptions/captions to 7.1 gallery sections. See here. There are some limitations, such as not appearing in lightbox view and not supporting multiple lines. So, the workaround below may still be of use. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi @dan3. Looking at the underlying gallery code, it appears that image descriptions are in-the-works to one degree or another. In the mean time, I've created a bit of code you can use to add image descriptions/captions to gallery sections in Sq

  3. Pardon me if these very basic questions have been asked and answered many times, but several hours of searching turned up nothing pertinent. (1) After "going live" with a webpage, a Squarespace user wants to make some changes to a page, but does not want those changes to "go live" until she has completed a cycle of PROTOTYPING and TESTING the changes (you know, basic SDLC). How does she do this in the Squarespace 6 environment? (2) An even more basic rephrasing of the question: While I am spending, say, 30 minutes making updates to an existing, live webpage, it appears that any visitor to t

  4. I love the new Summary Block. And I would like to use it to let a visitor browse through excerpts of my blogposts before they dive into the posts themselves - especially the carousel option is extremely suitable for that. Bummer: when you try to implement this feature the number of blogposts that you can show is limited to 30. Would anyone now if the 30-items-limit is overridable with some piece of code that could be injected somewhere? I know that if you use blog excerpts in the regular way, the number of posts to be displayed is unlimited. But the way in which you can display them is not

  6. I’ve been trying to change the banner/header height in the Bedford template by inserting this in the CSS editor but it’s not yielding any results. #collection-xxxxx #banner-thumbnail-wrapper { height: 50px; } Does anyone have any suggestions on what else can be done? I would also like to be able to edit the height of the banner when it’s a slideshow. Thanks!

  7. I have a gallery grid and am wanting to find a way of being able to hover over each thumbnail and it shows an id number for each picture. It shows the ID number on the rollover when I click and the lightbox enlarges the image, but ideally would like it to show on the gallery thumbnails also using hover. I'm not looking for anything fancy, just two words of text to show over each picture when hovering. I have NO experience with CSS (but am happy to give it a try!) so if anyone can help, please make it as simple as you can :) Could you also please let me know if the code would ALL go into the

  8. Update: I posted a new tutorial on hiding links in navbar here, in case you are interested I see that a lot of people have the same kind of problem and the root of it is that there isn't any effective way to have a bilingual SS6 site. So if you want to make a bilingual site what are your options? the Google Translator, which is no option for me this method by SS, no an option either After a lot of research and brainstorming I came up with the conclusion that you can: Create a blog/page in your primary language of choice (X- for me that's GREEK VERSION) Duplicate each page/blog(for blogs

  9. Can each Block in the layout engine have its own background colour? This would be a big way to customize the look of the templates. This has been discussed various times on here but I don’t think I’ve seen a definitive simple answer – in particular there’s been a lot of discussion across various threads that block IDs YUI seem to change so targeting a block ID with color doesn’t seem to work permanently. Colored blocks are pretty standard now on major websites as a way of structuring different types of content. See the examples below:

As brought up here: http://answers.squarespace.com/questions/8532/folder-navigation-top-folder-doesnt-link-to-anything-can-i-get-it-to-or-remove-link-behavior Folders should have a click through link so that it can be clicked to go to another page. It should work the same as a regular folder in that it should still have an active colour if that has been set so that if you are on a page that is held within that folder or the page the folder link is connected to the "active color" works. Please vote up if you agree. Another possible option is to make a special kind of page that works like a f

I'd like the explanations to be hidden initially so visitors only see the list of services. Then they would have the option to expand the explanations under the services they want to read more about. For example Service Name (visitor would click name to open text underneath)[explanatory text here would remain hidden until user clicks service name, then expand to be read] Is there any way to do this?

  15. I want my website to be bilingual, in French and English. I am currently using the Devlin template. What are my options to make make this bilingual? I am aware that there is a Google translator option but I cannot see what the end result will be like. I can’t find examples. I can translate all my pages on my own but I need a button in the navigation bar that allows me to switch between both English and French on every page. Is this possible to add within a template? Thanks in advance for your help.

  18. Has anyone who has previously used Squarespace and was familiar with the design process tried making a new, from scratch site using 7.1? All of the Design customization is GONE! There's a super convoluted way to go in and customize in settings, but you still have way less control than before — not to mention the templated font combinations are TERRIBLE. Is there any way to go back and use the old Squarespace??! Is any one else as angry about this as I am? It's like Squarespace decided they wanted to make the design process baby boomer-friendly, since... yanno, that is who is designi

  19. I am using the Five template and have set up a folder style navigation. Is it possible to get the top level navigation (the folder) to go to the first sub-page when clicked? Currently there is no way to get it to go anywhere. In Squarespace 5 you could set a page to be the default page of the folder when the folder was clicked. When you rollover the folder it behaves like a link so from a usability stand point it should link to something. If I can’t get it to link, can I remove the “looks like a link” behaviors (e.g. rollover color change, mouse pointer change) just on the folders? I am als

  21. I am trying to achieve a full width background color behind a code block on my website. The code block has two divs - one for the background color, and one for the content. The CSS I am using at the moment is as follows: #Bio { background-color: #e5e5e5; margin-left: -600px; margin-right: -600px; } #BioWrapper { margin: 0 auto; padding: 40px 600px; } So basically I am playing around with margins and padding to get the effect, but it then creates extra space to the right, causing unwanted scrolling.
